Jon Weber

The Brownville Concert Series will host Jon Weber this weekend where he will present his show "From Joplin To Jarrett".

Weber says that he came up with the show while performing in Australia.

"I started doing it in Australia about 20 years ago.  Somebody just asked me, they said, 'You're doing a show tomorrow night by the piano.  What's it called?'  And I said, 'Ahhh, Joplin to Jarrett'.   Boom, and that was it.  I just did it and I've been doing it every since.  It's just fun to explore a lot of my heroes in the jazz-piano world."

Weber takes his early jazz influences like Jelly Roll Morton, James P. Johnson, and Fats Waller to the stage in a performance that takes the audience on a journey through the era of early to modern jazz.

"I'm just going to move forward and show how piano evolution happened.  And I do it rather quickly.  It's a pretty concise program, and I think a lot of fun.  I certainly enjoy playing all these styles and showing how things went from sounding like ragtime into the very modern sounding piano."

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Weber has moved his talents to the cities of Chicago and New York City performing with critically acclaimed composers and musicians. The show in Brownville is a regular stop for Weber as he has always enjoyed playing in a smaller town.

"It's a really really nice play to be.  I'm always kind of regretting coming back, because every time I go out there, it feels like my hometown really.  It feels like my old neighborhood where I grew up."

Weber will perform in cabaret this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m, and Sunday at 2 p.m.
